چکیده

We construct magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) similarity rebound shocks joining ‘quasistatic’ asymptotic solutions around the central degenerate core to explore an MHD model for the evolution of random magnetic field in supernova explosions. This provides a theoretical basis for further studying synchrotron diagnostics, MHD shock acceleration of cosmic rays, and the nature of intense magnetic field in compact objects. The magnetic field strength in space approaches a limiting ratio, that is comparable to the ratio of the ejecta mass driven out versus the progenitor mass, during this self-similar rebound MHD shock evolution. The intense magnetic field of the remnant compact star as compared to that of the progenitor star is mainly attributed to both the gravitational core collapse and the radial distribution of magnetic field.

Homologous Core Collapse in a Massive Star and Self-Similar Evolution of Rebound Shocks

During the gravitational core collapse of a massive progenitor star which may give rise to at least a class of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) associated with supernovae, a stellar core rapidly passes through a short yet important phase of neutronization, producing a huge amount of energetic neutrinos and photons which contribute to the total pressure within the progenitor core. The collection of neutr...

On the Inadmissibility of Non-evolutionary Shocks

In recent years, numerical solutions of the equations of compressible magnetohydrodynamic flows have been found to contain intermediate shocks for certain kinds of problems. Since these results would seem to be in conflict with the classical theory of magnetohydrodynamic shocks, they have stimulated attempts to reexamine various aspects of this theory, in particular the role of dissipation. In ...

Intermediate shocks in three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic bow-shock flows with multiple interacting shock fronts

Simulation results of three-dimensional (3D) stationary magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) bow-shock flows around perfectly conducting spheres are presented. For strong upstream magnetic field a new complex bow-shock flow topology arises consisting of two consecutive interacting shock fronts. It is shown that the leading shock front contains a segment of intermediate 1-3 shock type. This is the first co...

Magnetohydrodynamic scaling: From astrophysics to the laboratory*

During the last few years, considerable progress has been made in simulating astrophysical phenomena in laboratory experiments with high-power lasers. Astrophysical phenomena that have drawn particular interest include supernovae explosions; young supernova remnants; galactic jets; the formation of fine structures in late supernovae remnants by instabilities; and the ablation-driven evolution o...

Stability of Standing Accretion Shocks, with an Eye toward Core Collapse Supernovae

We examine the stability of standing, spherical accretion shocks. Accretion shocks arise in core collapse supernovae (the focus of this paper), star formation, and accreting white dwarfs and neutron stars. We present a simple analytic model and use timedependent hydrodynamics simulations to show that this solution is stable to radial perturbations. In two dimensions we show that small perturbat...
